Bergl, Duquette, Marchiori....sigh.....images of their work are always in my mind...
....influencing my own work and consultations I have with clients and decorators.
These first two images are from two rooms done by J W Bergl in the Schonbrunn Palace in Austria. Here is a link to see a panoramic view of the entire room.

Carlo Marchiori, Venetian by birth, settled in California over a decade ago and brought with him the best of european decorative art.
Carlo not only built Ca 'Toga, but painted all interior murals as well....
His work stopped me in my tracks when I first saw it featured in a magazine I picked up in Venice.

They are all incredible but those last two pics...sigh. What beauty! An "influence" to me is Caravaggio -- the way he mastered several art disciplines. Or maybe I like his bad boy ways... :) Another gem of a post!
Jaw dropping indeed! Just finished reading More Is More about Tony Duquette. Better than the first! I think visions of sugar plums in my head were planted by Henry James and Edith Wharton. My love for upholstered rooms came from Laura Ashley and the Big Hair Drapes by Mario Buatta. Wish I could paint....sigh!

These last two posts are so you, I could imagined you having a hand in any one of those interiors and I enjoyed the road trip through Texas.
I was once very influenced by an all white library by David Hicks. He replaced all the book covers with white vellum.
I liked many of the stencilled interiors created by UK artists Antonia Spowers and Lyn Le Grice. The artistry in Blakes hotel was stunning. Mural artist Graham Rust is pretty fab too. I think my fave is Renzo Mongiardino, his Roomscapes book is a delight.

Fabulous post-I am overwhelmed by the beauty. The Tony Duquette and Hotel Claude are amazing. I have been most influenced by Charlotte Moss and Mark Hampton I would say.
Beth, I love the quote from Charlotte Moss stating she will not work with a client who has bad shoes or uses polyester napkins!!

I think Graham Rust is pretty fab too!!! I could do a whole post on Mongiardino alone...and plan to in the future! Speaking of "fab", I couldn't help but do a post on the "Fabulous Helen Morris"!!

What I would do to get my hands on a few scraps (well, frame-able remnants)of the antique panoramic wallpaper, top photo! Have always loved the "collector style"...follow your nose decorating. Trish

There are dealers at the Paris flea market that have remnants of Zuber and Dufour papers....they start at around 300.00 US for a piece about 8 x 12 inches. I always go through them and love looking at the colors....sigh
