Being an artist, I am constantly trying to balance chaos and order in my environment. I like things to be functional, yet pretty.....take these great wooden cigar boxes. Stacked, they look great.
Each one holds an incredible amount of art supplies, chalks, pens, charcoals......I picked mine up from a local tobacco shop. They sell many of there boxes once empty.
Look at this fabulous laptop holder from Paul Smith..so different, functional, yet artistic.
Need a daily reminder board? Step it up a notch and make this french inspired organizer . I made one for myself after seeing this one on Ullabenulla. I found a gilded frame with half of the ornament missing in a junk shop. Perfect for my needs.
What about your desk? There is always the sea of paperwork to deal with. Use this spiral holder available from the Museum of Modern Art.
Now that you have the file holder, get some graphic file folders. Think visual, I use one design for bills, another for clients, one for my blog, etc. You just need to enter the room and glance to the files to see the one you need!
There are many styles out there, from William and Morris designs to faux bois.
My last thought is also a quirky little art inspired item. These "paint tubes" are door stops! Just because we all have work to do and things to organize doesn't mean our environment has to be dull! Put some color and art into your life this week.

The Paul Smith laptop holder and reminder board are fabulous. Great post-do everything with style!
great ideas - i especially like the cigar boxes! thanks!
Thanks Beth. I have Paul Smith thick acrylic signature cuff links that I bought in Paris...I covet all things Paul Smith!!!
Kitty!
I am a lover of all boxes and think they can make a lot of daily clutter manageable.
Hi Theresa -
I'm crazy about all of these things. Have lots of cigar boxes, thanks to my husband. I just love the cedar smell of them. When I was very little, about 8, I wanted office supplies for Christmas! Still love any kind of item I can store things in. Needless to say, I loved this post!

You have the same attraction to those wonderful boxes Catherine? Thanks for stopping by!
Oh, my gosh - I have those faux bois/flower file folders. LOVE pretty folders. And what a great idea - paint tube door stops. Going to check on them after I write this note...thank you for the great finds!
Well, of course you have them Regina! You are always ahead of the curve! Congrats again on the article.
cigar boxes are great. i have a huge stack of them in different sizes. i just go into smoke shops and ask for them. usually they are free!
I agree Lynne, I think they are almost a lost art in their construction. Many are lacquered with brass hinges. Very pretty.
Hi Theresa. Having a fun Saturday going into blog closets. Great ideas...I sure hope I didn't throw those little balsawood cigar boxes out. I get tired of all my "maybe..." clutter and get cathartic and then regret it. Trish
Can anyone tell me where to get divided trays like the ones in the above photo with the pens, pencils and other supplies? They would also help to organize items for sewing and crochet hooks. With those I could finally get myself organized using my stash of cigar boxes.. TIA
Try ebay. They have lots of cigar boxes and sell many of them in multiples. Also, shops that sell cigarettes and cigars will sell their empty boxes. Many of them have the wooden slats in them. Good luck!
My husband has smoked cigars for several years. I had two of the Torono boxes. I glued three of the inserts together to make a spice rack. I bought corks for the glass tubes, and after washing and drying, I filled them with my spices. I also added velcro to keep them from falling out of the inserts, and stickers to identify the contents. I had a handyman friend add a chain and connect it to the bottom of a cabinet. My spices are close enough to grab when cooking, but not close enough for the heat to ruin them.
Barbara- I love what you did! Those inserts can be used so many ways.
