Chalkboard paint amazes me! Do you remember the first time you were called to the front of the room and got to write something on the chalkboard for the teacher? What magic that was!

The magic of creating and then destroying by erasing, is addictive to me.
You can create and then erase all evidence with the swipe of a hand.

You can write messages or create designs on the painted object.I am still a little "old-school" and would be more comfortable reaching for a piece of chalk instead of a blackberry!
You could have a new car everyday! Can't you see chalk flames and pin striping?

Some artists recognize this ephemeral media as art.

I love this piece by artist Lauren Tennenbaum. Inspired by 16th c.grotesques, she painted the griffins on canvas and then applied them to the drawers.....they look chalk- like to me. I think I am going to do a series of furniture with chalk paint and feature ephemeral art on them. What a concept! You could change your furniture as often as you change your clothes! Thanks Lauren for the idea. ;)

Lovely post. However, my deepest memory of a chalkboard was in junior high math where the stocky (scary) female teacher would walk around the room of chalkboards examining our work and slapping a paddle in her hand at the same time. No, she was not a nun! This was public school. Scared the numbers right out me. Your version of chalkboards much more friendly. I'd love to see what you and Lauren cook create together.
A lovely collection, I particularly like the fridge and the Cameron-Boyds.
Can you or your readers recommend a really good black wall paint? It must be the blackest of blacks.
I love this...emensly...the fridge...the globe, all of it...
Too cool.

I LOVE this! I bought a chalkboard from Wisteria after not being able to find an affordable baroque frame to make one myself. My "boys" didn't understand why I wanted one, but now they get it......the magic of creativity as you said. Chalkboard furniture, my mind is reeling.
HBD-So sorry this was not a "warm and fuzzy" memory for you! The chalkboard was my first canvas...full of unlimited possibilities!!!
Lee-the fridge is cool, isn't it! I like the globe too...I need to go paint something .)
a little chalk paint and anything can be a chalkboard... FUN!
Helen..have you considered "pitch black" by Farrow and Ball? whatever you get...look at the formula and make sure there is no green or blue in it...there should ONLY be black pigment along with the stabilizers and fillers.
I want to paint a chalk wall in my flat , i love this new trend
This was the best post ever on chalkboard paint!! Leave it to you with your fabulous take on everything!
We painted the flat firewall door leading from our garage into the house with chalkboard paint and it's been very useful and decorative. It added the perfect element to our garage space we've named Manlantis!!
Have a wonderful week Theresa!!!
Dolfina- "Manlantis"!! Love it!! Yeah, chalkboard paint is pretty magical to me!!
I love the idea...chalk could be so interesting. Change your furniture with your mood!
Lauren
I'll keep you posted Lauren on how this turns out!
Hi Theresa. Well...listen, even if it isn't chalk board...I've been going straight flat paint on my grays. It gives you a very chalky, new look. The guys at the paint store think I'm nuts but I love it! Did a green chalkboard paint on my daughter's door @ 10 years ago and kids had loads of fun with it. But of course...black is so much cooler. Wonderful, timely post. Merci! Trish
I am completely obsessed with chalk board paint. Have a couple of projects backed up that I am dying to get to. Now you have given me even more inspiration.

My favorite was the chalkboard wall headboard in 500 Days of Summer. Great post as always. BTW I love Lauren's work-she is a mad genius.
I am crazy for chalk boards, yet have not ventured into the paint store.
What's wrong with me?
I love chalkboards too (except for cleaning them). Great images here and love the art.
