For the love of coral!

I have been traveling to Venice for well over a decade.

The magic of Venice is like no other place on earth....

Each shop window is full of temptations....

So, how have I missed these fabulous pieces of glass(?) coral??

Linda Bailey Zimmerman is in Venice now and spotted these in a shop window. Coral on a Christmas tree...fabulous! ( Linda has a wonderful blog on Venice here and is a serious photographer and you can buy her work here. )

Tony Duquette understood the magic of coral and used it extensively in the Venetian Palazzo Brandolini. In the photo, Hutton Wilkinson is installing the coral.

See how the red pops against the pink and cream walls?

Tony had a source for coral in Venice!!

Here is another example in a Venice store window. Next time you are in Venice, keep your eyes open for coral!!

Hi, Theresa,

My first thought in reading your posting was wonderment at how Venetians had so much access to coral, but then your mention of glass made me think, "Duh, of course!" The glass coral is very convincing, and if I ever get to Venice, that's what I want as a souvenir!

Dear Theresa, You are right; the magic of Venice is like no other. I wish that everyone could experience Venice if only once in their lifetime.
Have you heard? Roller suitcases are no longer allowed in Venice. If you are caught with one a hefty fine will follow.

I don't mind. I can easily carry what I take along.

Striking!

Gina-they are still considering the ban on roller suitcases, but it probably will not pass. I know it is noise pollution and does damage the stones but there is little else one can do to shlep their luggage from canal to canal!

This is gorgeous. I am constantly on the look out for fake red coral. I got some lovely pieces in Florence and one from TK Maxx!
