This is the first piece I ever saw by sculptor Patrick Gracewood of Gracewood Studios......his combining of rescued, found and sculpted objects drew me in immediately!
Traveling to Portland,Oregon for an art convention recently, I was able to meet Patrick at his studio!
Detail.....Patrick sees everything! His studio is surrounded with peaceful gardens created as backdrops for his sculpture.
There is a harmony of nature and art that feeds the soul and gives one a place to "just be".....
Patrick combines layers of texture that plays against the filtered light coming into his garden...
Winding pathways and clever use of scale allows the visitor to enjoy intimate vignettes throughout the garden...
Patrick sculpts in wood, stone and other found objects....
He explained that when you want to display something small in scale, you have to use a large base to make it work. This allows the piece to not get lost with it's surroundings.
I loved this triptych and series of panels featuring that watery blue that I am always seeking.....
In this chaotic life, we all need a place to "just be"....Gracewood studios is dedicated to just that....making us stop and enjoy the little moments in life....thank you Patrick for letting me share one with you!

I can imagine how peaceful it must be in those gardens and amongst Patrick's work. The peace is transcended through the photos. Hope you're enjoying the summer, Theresa.

Beautiful work by Patrick of Gracewood Studios. A great post. Thank you Theresa for always finding such interesting people and sharing their art with us.
Oh, I love the new photo of you at the top of the post.
Thank you for the shout out, Theresa.
It's interesting to see the studio and garden through your eyes. I was so glad for the time and ideas we shared, and also the tour of IDAL suppliers. That made me search the basement for that box of mica stashed there for years. It's gonna be on this next carving. x Patrick
What a wonderful place to just stop and 'be'.
The last image had me captivated, it really does evoke peace and calm.

Beautiful place -- on my must see list now when I visit Portland. I do love the idea of using a large base in scale, will certainly be incorporating that into my (still in the early stages) garden. Great post, Theresa!
